James Nestor (hey, that’s me!) usually writes about architecture, alternative fuels, and popular culture for Dwell Magazine, National Public Radio, The San Francisco Chronicle, Outside Magazine, San Francisco Magazine, and more. He is currently writing a book about the neurology of alleged out-of-body experiences.

A persistent adventurer, Nestor has traveled to over 20 countries and lived with yam farmers on a remote island in the South Pacific while researching a story about the last surviving cargo cult. He recently returned from an expedition in Norway and Russia in which he and a team of surfers became the first to pioneer surf breaks in the Arctic Circle. He runs his car on used cooking oil. He prefers salt on his eggs.

Nestor lives in the Bernal Heights neighborhood of San Francisco with his dog, Face, a mutt he saved from the pound four years ago, who, at the very moment he writes this, is asleep not at his feet but on his feet. Little creep.
